How did you use Evernote and the Evernote Web Clipper to support your work in this course?
How do you think that viewing your notes as a lasting resource might affect how you participate in future courses?
Describe at least one metacognitive protocol that YOU develop to augment your current thinking. This could be a study strategy that you have adapted, a way to organize your research, or so other way of organizing your new knowledge for writing, planning, etc. The also be strategy that you think would be useful for you (or others) for some future purpose.
Originally when I downloaded Evernote, I thought that it was only used for taking notes in class. I didn't use it much to start because we didn't always have a lot of notes to take. But then when we were shown how to use the Web Clipper, I understood how it could be more useful. It took me some time to get used to using it because I hadn't used so much technology in my classes before, but I found it very helpful. Especially for our Issues Around Reform project because we needed to find sources online. I found the Web Clipper extremely helpful because I could save my articles to Evernote and then I wouldn't have to worry about finding them again online. That had been a problem I previously had with my sources because if I didn't save the link, then I would have a lot of trouble trying to find it again and going to all my different sources to type in key words and search for it again. With Evernote, it made it so easy, especially because the link to the page came up on the top of the clipped source. I also was glad to have Evernote if I left campus and still wanted to work on my education homework because it allowed me to see the sources I needed without having the password or the access codes to go onto the library sites. I found it very useful when it came to getting my work done and using different sources because I could have them all in one place and easy to access. I would clip them off the internet and give them all the same tag so I wouldn't even have a problem finding them in my notebook.
I think that having my notes available to me in the future will be extremely beneficial, especially because they are all relevant to my major. If I am doing research in some of my future classes and remember how it relates to something that I have already learned or read about I can find it in Evernote. I can use them as resources again in future projects and I won't have to go through all the trouble of finding them online through the library resources again. This will make it much easier for me in future classes where I need different types of articles and resources or knowledge on a certain topic. If I feel like I need to refresh myself on something we have already talked about I can easily do it be rereading the articles. It makes it a lot easier to have them all in one place on my computer because I have easy access to them at all times. In the past, when I took written notes, I always liked to keep them for future reference. I always had pages and pages of study guides that often got disorganized or I was unable to find part or all of them. I like Evernote because I have them all in one place and will never have to worry about losing them again.
I am a very visual learner. I like to see things in front of me when I am working on any type of school work. Whether I need to memorize a list or know about a certain topic, I like to see it in front of me, either as a picture or a list or an article. If I read something on a page that interests me, I normally remember the location of it on the page. Once I noticed this, I used it as a study strategy by rewriting my notes very neatly so I could look at them to study. This helps me a lot in regards to my future because I know how the best way to study for me is. A lot of times, people don't know how they need to study to best benefit themselves. I can use Evernote to benefit my study habits because I can read notes or articles off of that now. It is much more convenient for me to have it all on my computer and this way I can build up my PKB and have it all available to me.
